World Business News | Chennai News

Monday, March 21, 2005 (New Delhi):

Owning a car in Delhi will has become costlier from today with a new road tax regime coming into effect.

The registration charges of vehicles levied by the Delhi government will now be on the basis of their price and not on weight as was the case earlier.

Vehicles costing upto Rs 4 lakh will now attract ad valorem tax of two per cent while those costing more than Rs 4 lakh will be taxed at the rate of four per cent.

The proposal for introduction of ad valorem tax regime was announced in the Budget session of 2003 but its implementation was delayed as it needed Centre's approval.
