Around 70 lakh children to benefit from pulse polio programme

World Business News | Chennai News

Around 70 lakh children below the age of five would be benefitted in Tamil Nadu in the pulse polio programme, which began today, as part of a nationwide campaign against polio.

Nearly two lakh personnel, including doctors, nurses and workers of voluntary agencies, are administering the drops in various parts of the state.

The state government had set up over 40,000 immunisation centres across the state, including in railway stations, bus stands, temples and tourist spots.

In the city, the programme was inaugurated by state Health Minister Thalavai Sundaram.

Official sources said mobile teams were also being deployed to cover the population in remote and inaccessible areas of the state.

Volunteers would also be going to various parts of the state tomorrow to administer the drops to children who were left out today, the sources said.
