CHENNAI, APRIL 10. `Tamil Thirai' TV (TTV), the new
channel, will start its telecasts on April 22. The channel,
controlled and managed by Tamil film industry personnel, will
beam programmes round-the-clock from day one, said the
channel chief and film director, Bharathiraja.
The trial run would start from April 15.
Addressing the media about the new channel, Mr. Bharathiraja
said that Tamil speaking people around the world would be
able to watch the programmes. "Our channel will be seen not
only in India but also in Asia, Europe, Australia and the
Gulf countries." `Tamil Thirai TV' will be a free-to-air
channel and the downlink frequency will be 4656 MHz and the
symbol rate is 12.121Ms/s. The polarisation is vertical and
FEC is 3/4. The channel will beam from Bangkok with Thaicom-3
satellite.
He said the channel would showcase Tamil art and culture in
an innovative way to stand out from other channels. "Due to
certain constraints we were not able to launch our channel
sooner. I can say that the channel would provide
entertainment and enjoyment to the viewers as well as the
connoisseurs of art and culture."
R.K. Selvamani and Kovai Thambi also spoke about the channel.
Trailers of a few programmes shown to the media included
Abavanan's "Appuchi", a game show and a dance programme by
Sukanya.
