While film-makers go for the routine action-dance-romance
fare, any film-maker who tries to break away from the routine
and sincerly attempts to do a different film should be
commended. In 'Adhu', a supernatural thriller, the narration
is not very complicated and the film is fairly engaging
despite its flaws. The jerky narration of the first half is
compensated for by a smoother flow in the second. But then,
of course, any 'ghost' film should have some 'exorcist' style
of scenes, and 'Adhu' is no exception. And there are the
forcibly pushed in fight scenes as a solace to the hero, who
otherwise has nothing much to do.
After 'Partibhan Kanavu' Sneha gets a role that is
challenging and she performs it with sincerity. She plays
Meera, a blind girl who regains her sight after an eye
transplantation but finds herself haunted by nightmares and
visions of a girl calling out to her. Her search for the
truth takes her to a village where she finds her answers - Of
money power and the exploitation of innocent villagers; of
the innocent Kalaivizhi, who's made a scapegoat in the whole
affair, mistrusted and betrayed by her own people.
Putting her life in danger, and with the support of her
boyfriend Arvind, Meera tries to finish what Kalaivizhi had
left undone.
It's Sneha's film the whole way. But making an impact is
debutante Suha as Kalaivizhi, and new face Arvind who
projects creditably the cynic who later goes all to support
Meera.
