It had been a while since ‘Captain’ Vijaykanth attended a
press meet for a film. This is the first time the actor is
essaying the role of a bank manager — reason why, we learn,
he accepted to do Engal Aasan.
Vijaykanth spoke about his association with Yuvashri
Pictures and producer S.V.Thangaraj, and said that though
their association went back 25 years, it was the first time
he is doing a film for them.
He was all praise for the film’s dialogue writer Velumani.
“The dialogues are very different and noteworthy,” he said.
Vijaykanth also clarified his stand on acting and politics —
“Acting is a different field. There is much more work to be
done when it comes to politics. However, I have to act,
because I have a party to run, don’t I?”
Director Kalaimani recalled how ‘Captain’. would arrive at
6.45 a.m. for a 7 a.m. shoot, and always be there ahead of
the unit. He would even stay behind after the shoot to help
them clear the place!”
Male lead Vikrant, actor Vijay’s cousin, recalled his long
association with Vijaykanth. “He has given life to many
heroes; likewise, he has helped me a great deal in this
film.”Talking about comparisons to Vijay, he said: “That is
bound to happen because we are cousins. However, I am trying
to break away from this image, and stand on my own.” Source:
