Hailing
from the small town of Panvel just outside Bombay, Aditi
Govitrikar comes from a very typical Konkanestha Brahmin
Maharashtrian family. However, Aditi is a study in contrasts.
Being a Brahmin Hindu, she married a Muslim. And being a
qualified gynaecologist, she chucked it up to become a model.
"Modelling is where the money is," she says as a matter of
fact. "I want to make money now while I can and then later on
in life,
I can go back to being a gynaec." The eldest of
three children (her sister Arzoo, is following in her
footsteps), Aditi did not even consider modelling until a
close friend shot some pictures of her and passed it on to
modelling agencies."Even before I won the Glad Rags Contest
in 1997, I had done assignments for Ponds and Rexona," she
tells us.
However, though Aditi may have become a Glad Rags Supermodel,
she also won the 'Best Face' and 'Best Body' prizes in the
Asian Supermodel contest held in Singapore later that year.
At the height of her career, Aditi married her long-time
sweetheart, Dr. Muzaffal Lakdawala."We met while both of us
were studying medicine and he was always supportive of my
modelling career. In fact, even after we got married a few
years back, I’ve continued to model with no resistance on his
part." That support from her husband seems to have paid off
as Aditi recently won the Mrs. World title in Las Vegas. And
in case you didn’t know, she’s also the mother of a
two-year-old baby girl - Kiara.
In fact, when Aditi was eight months pregnant, she posed for
the cover of Elle – though not nude like Demi Moore did for
Vanity Fair back in 1991.Though she has done numerous ads and
music videos, the most recent ones are the ad for Coke with
Hrithik Roshan and the Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao video for Adnan
Sami with Salil Ankola. Aditi has no qualms about saying that
she was not the first choice for the coke advertisement. she
says. However, Aishwarya could not provide dates for the
shoot immediately and so the Coke team had to search for a
replacement. They finally settled on Aditi Govitrikar as she
looks a lot like Ash – what with her fair skin and green
eyes! Is a film called Soch, directed by Susan Bhatnagar.
"It’s a very thought-provoking film," says Aditi not wanting
to talk further about her maiden acting venture. But what
about modelling?
"My foray into films shouldn't be interpreted as the end of
my modelling career. Call it my Gemini temperament or what
you will, but I have this compelling urge to change my
profession every now and then.'' So keen is Aditi on learning
and experiencing new things in life, that she’s considering
securing a PG degree in cosmetology. Aditi says, "It was a
better feeling than when I won the Glad Rags title. It made
me feel complete."
