Aishwarya Rai was born on 1st November 1973 at Mangalore. Her mother is Vrinda Rai and her father is Krishna Raj, who is a marine engineer. She has a brother. Her eyes are as blue as that of the oceans surrounding Mauritius. Most popularly she is known as Ash. She stands 5 feet 7 inches above the ground.

She was excellent in studies, right from her childhood. She topped her school throughout. Ash's eyes were set on a carrier in medicine. In fact two medical schools even selected her, but destiny had other ideas. She did her junior college from Jai Hind and in class 12th she had her first fashion shoot. She shied away from modeling after that, as she wanted to concentrate on her studies. She then joined the Rachana Sansad School of Architecture and started training to be an architect. During vacations she made a second stint at modeling and hold it guys she almost launched a 100 products! She created market for cosmetics with her beauty.

Then came the year 1994 and Aish was crowned the Miss World, and from here on she attained International Celebrity Status.Movie offers were pouring on and she made her debut with Mani Rathnam's Iruvar.Though it did not have the impact on Box Office, she sure got a market. The she acted in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Aa Aab Laut Chalen, Jeans.Then came Taal which brought out the dancing talents of Ash.She had swift movements like that of a deer in almost every song of Taal, be it "Ramta Jogi" or "Ishq bina". Then came Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Ash silenced all those critics, who had written her off saying she could never act. Ash won the most coveted Filmfare Awards for the Best Actress category.

This movie achieved popularity not only for the story line, but also rumors about off screen romance between Aish and her co-star Salman Khan.Well once u become a celebrity, the rumor mills work over time. Don't they? Aish's latest releases are Josh and a Tamil movie Kandukondain Kandukondain.This Tamil movie is a run away hit. In Josh also she carried out her role as Shah Rukh's twin sister to perfection.
