Namrata
Barua seems to have a magical wand. She glamourises
everything she touches in the world of fashion. Her enticing
face has captured the small screen with ads and music videos.
Good for a girl who did not choose modelling to be her
profession. Coming from a family of architects, Namrata kept
the family profession intact by becoming a qualified interior
designer. Her Assamese father and Maharashtrian mother are
architects. Namrata has got the best of both races and is all
set to take on the world.
Namrata got into the field of modelling while in college.
During one intercollegiate fashion show, she won the Nivea
face ’95 award and this won her a free portfolio. Thus
started her tryst with glamour. Her portfolio came as a big
self-realisation. And before she could decide on what to do
next, she was into professional modelling. She never had to
struggle to get into the glamorous world.
Ponds campaign was her first professional break. But Namrata
made it big with the Organics contract and from there went on
to become one of Mumbai's busiest models. Namrata had to
model for hair ads. Ironically, modelling for hair actually
spoilt her hair. The persistent application of the gels and
shampoos, the bright lights and hair dryers did their damage
and she ended up with hair that was not very special anymore.
Still, Namrata says she prefers ads to ramp modelling as it
gives greater visibility and more money.
Namrata doesn’t want to confine herself to modeling. She is
all ready to enter a relatively more serious arena, that of
anchoring. With her dusky, pensive looks, which light up in
one electrifying moment as the laughter comes to her eyes,
Namrata has a lot going for her. She is a veejay in a musical
channel B4U. She is also co-hosting Style on BBC along with
Rahul Bose. Namrata was the vamp in the video Gabbar mix,
showing her sexy back. She was also a part of Cats, a
thriller inspired by Charlie’s Angels on Sony television.
Namrata appears to be choosy about the people she works with.
Going by the standard of television serials she would
definitely not like to work in a set up which doesn't have
any sense of script, direction and make up. She says she
would never work for a non-classy project. She claims that
she is not the kind of a person who will do anything without
full preparation.
Namrata is a beauty with brains. Along with her modelling,
acting, veejaying and interior designing, she still makes
time to compile booklets to help aspiring models prepare
portfolios.
