For
Salman Khan making his name in the Bollywood film industry
has not been easy. With a lot of ups and downs both
professionally and emotionally... Salman has today come to
believe that life is not something that should be taken for
granted and that the gamble in the film game is something
that will never deter him from bringing the best out of him.
Probably that is the reason people absolutely adore him even
though his box office hits have been but a few. The man has
learnt to take life in his stride and topless or not... He is
one of the most loved men of the Indian film industry.
Salman Khan started his career in a B Grade film called Biwi
Ho To Aisi. The film had Rekha and Farooq Sheikh in the lead
roles. He had a very juvenile role against a girl known as
Renu Arya. Even though the film did well... Renu Arya was
seen only once in Chandni after which she left the film
scene. Salman of course was here to stay and so began his
story...
Salman Khan is the son of writer Salim Khan. He was brought
up in the vicinity of filmdom. In 1998-99 Salman Khan came to
become popular for his liaisons firstly with a girl known as
Shaheen and then top model, Sangeeta Bijlani. He was not much
during that time. All he was doing was assisting Shashilaal
Nair in Falak and all he was was a good-looking lad around.
It was Sooraj Barjatya who noticed this big biceps man and
put his trust in him. At that point Rajshri films of the
Barjatyas was not doing too well. But Salman with Sooraj
created magic on the silver screen with Maine Pyar Kiya. It
was the biggest film of the year winning seven filmfare
awards and was the biggest film grosser the industry had ever
seen. The film ran 100 weeks and even got dubbed in not only
Tamil and Telugu but also Spanish.
History was made and along with it so was Salman. The laurels
of course were heaped more on Sooraj Barjatya but for Salman
it meant a career which has made him the super star of today
who can replaced by nobody. Sallu became a part of all our
lives from that day onwards. The list was endless after that.
The next lot of movies to follow included Paththar Ke Phool,
introducing Raveena Tandon, Bhaagi, introducing Nagma, Sanam
Bewafa introducing Chandni and Love, introducing Revati to
Hindi films. Saajan was a super success where he starred
against established heroine, Madhuri Dixit.
The one thing about Salman was that he was very unpopular
with the press. He was called the brat of the industry and he
was always at odds with the press who considered him snooty
and rude in his demeanor.
However the next phase of Salman's career proved fatal.
Jagruti, Ek Ladka Ek Ladki, Dil Tera Aashiq, Chandramukhi,
Chand Ka Tukda destroyed the MPK image of Salman and the
years 1993 and 1994 saw the downfall of the hunk.
Along with the press the industry also seemed to have lost
interest in Salman but the one man who stood by him and
trusted him yet again was Suraj Barjatya. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
was his next super hit with Salman. If MPK was a success then
Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was a mega success. It grossed 10 times
over MPK with a 300 Crore Rupees Indian Box office turnover.
Overseas the film became a six hundred print wonder and the
trade and press were forced to give Salman a second chance.
The man had so many surprises up his sleeve..who knew! After
that everything is history.
Salman was in news in 1998 when he was arrested for poaching
black bucks in Jodhpur on the shooting schedule of Hum Saath
Saath Hain. Once he had bid goodbye to all of the grief that
the incident brought in his life, Salman turned a new leaf
when he got together with brothers Sohail and Arbaaz Khan in
Hello Brother.
And who's the lady this Mr. Macho would deserve at the end of
it all.. none other than the beautiful Ash. She is the woman
in his life nowadays and the matter has been in the news for
some time now. Infact unlike earlier, now they have no qualms
about being open about the whole thing.
The year 2000 saw Rani -Preeti- Salman multi-starrer Har dil
Jo Pyar Karega which did a so-so at the box office. The other
film Salman starred in against Rani Mukherji was Kahin Pyar
Na Ho Jaye. The films did not last too long but the one thing
Salman's films guarantees is an opening with a bang which it
did and will hopefully continue to do.
The much talked about controversial film Chori Chori Chupke
Chupke released recently where Salman was seen with Preeti
Zinta and Rani Mukherjee yet once again. Salman played the
lead role in the film and was interrogated lately at length
in connection with the whole Bharat Shah issue.
That's Salman's life all put together. Here's wishing him the
very best ahead...
