Rajkiran is back with 'Sevvel' after a long gap. The main
subject of the movie centres on the bonding between father
and son. Though the script has quite a few flaws, debutant
director-script writer Primose (he is also the cameraman and
producer) should be appreciated for making an effort to be
different from the routine stuff. The slow narration mars the
pace of the film. Primose's camera has captured exotic
locales of Sri Lanka.
Story:
Sudalai (Raj Kiran) is a village head who commands great
respect among villagers. He leads a peaceful life with his
wife Sevandhi (Seetha). Due to some turn of events, Sudalai
is publicly humiliated by the cops. Unable to tolerate the
insult meted out, he leaves the village and shifts to the
city with his pregnant wife, and manages to join a female
State Minister as her car driver. The minister gets killed in
a tussle that takes place between her and lawyer Parasuram (Kalabhavan
Mani), the blame falls on Sudalai who is present at the
scene. Sudalai gets arrested and imprisoned. On hearing the
news, his wife dies of shock, leaving their little son (Sevvel)
an orphan. A noble heart takes care of the little child and
years roll by. Sevvel, now named Raja is a law student. His
search for his father continues. Sudalai settles down in
Chennai and ekes-out a livelihood by running an old paper
shop. Raja works in Sudalai's paper shop without knowing that
he is his father. He graduates from Law College in flying
colours and sets out to restore his father's lost reputation.
He joins as Parasuram's junior to expose him. The rest is all
emotional drama that ends up in the father- son reunion.
Performance:
Raj Kiran is at his best in Sevvel. He does overact in a
couple of scenes though. Jai Akash as the son has done a
fairly neat job. Debutant heroine Misha hardly has anything
to do except dance around. Kalabhavan Mani is passable as
villain.
Music:
Music by Aasan is average.
Verdict:
Below Average.
