Movie
Vara Pogum Suryan
Director S.K. Swamy
Vara Pogum Suryan, with newcomers written and directed by S.K.
Swamy reminds you of the documentaries that appeared in
Doordarshan in the early 80's before the advent of colour.
The film has a village milieu and is all about a poor
farmer's son due to his hardwork becoming an IPS officer,
against all odds!
It has cliched scenes, melodrama, sweat and tears that you
may have seen in so many village stories of the 80's. In
presentation the film is outdated and totally predictable.
The film opens with a village Panchayat in progress as the
headsman disowns and curses his daughter (Seeta) for marrying
a poor labourer(Prasad). At the time of the birth of her son
she dies but not before getting a promise from her husband
that he will make him a educated and a respected man.
The boy Sakthivel is brilliant in studies and grows up into a
committed young man (Thrivikram) due to his fathers hard work
he comes first in MA. A rich landlord's daughter (Priyanjli)
falls in love with him, which is opposed by her uncle (Ramesh
Kanna) who wants to marry her. Sakthivel wants to get IPS and
do good for the villagers . How he goes about getting it
after a lot of trials and tribulations forms the rest of the
hackneyed story.
There is nothing really to recommend in this film, even the
music of Deva is a big letdown. Director Swamy has faithfully
made a village movie in typical Ramraj style.
