The Village
is about a small peaceful community in 1890’s style who
are restricted within the boundaries of the village. They
believe that the surrounding wood is the home for mysterious
creatures. There is a kind of understanding between the two
boundaries, the villagers do not enter the woods and the
creatures do not come into the village, as long as they are
undisturbed. A romance also blossoms between a young man
Lucius Hunt (Joaquin Phoenix) and Ivy (Bryce Dallas Howard),
the blind daughter of the Village’s leader Edward Walker
(William Walker). When Lucius tumbles victim to a crime, Ivy
is all determined to step into the woods to reach the nearby
town for medicine.
The Village is typical movie
with an excellent idea and you will find it really
interesting provided you don’t go for it expecting a scary
horror flick. The film does have monsters, but not the ones
that you might look forward to. An impressive cinematography
and a neat cast, especially a very good debut performance
from Dallas Howard will make you enjoy the film. Phoenix also
gives a wonderful performance but it becomes Dallas’ all the
way toward the end of the film. The film is more about love,
sacrifice and courage that we need to take upon in our
day-today lives.
