The BJP is launching a three-day protest today in support of
Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati.
Party president L K Advani is on a fast in New Delhi today
while it will be the turn of senior leader Murli Manohar
Joshi on Sunday.

On the third day, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee
will be on a day long hunger strike.
Intensify agitation
A delegation of the BJP met President A P J Kalam on Friday
to lodge their protest against the manner in which the
Shankaracharya had been arrested.
They saffron party is demanding a separate law to be made to
deal with religious leaders.
Vowing to intensify its agitation to protest the arrest of
the Shankaracharya, VHP has called for a countrywide bandh on
November 22.
Bail plea
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court is likely to announce its
decision on the seer's bail plea and the petition by his
lawyers against police custody today.
On Friday, a court in Kancheepuram remanded him to police
custody for three days for interrogation.
The court maintained there were sufficient grounds for the
action sought by the Tamil Nadu police in the interest of
investigation into the murder of a former employee of the
math headed by the pontiff.
The seer's lawyer promptly moved the Madras High Court
challenging the Kancheepuram court's order.
