Friday,
December 3, 2004 (New Delhi):
Dow Chemicals has accepted 'full responsibility' for the
Bhopal gas leak, which took place 20 years back.

The plant from which the deadly methyl isocynate gas leaked
on the night of November 2, 1984 belonged to Union Carbide,
which later merged into Dow Chemicals.
This is the first time that the company has accepted
responsibility for the gas leak.
Till now it had been blaming the local plant for the tragedy.
Although the company did pay compensation to the victims but
activists had gone to a New York court demanding that Dow
gets the entire site cleaned up.
Dow's acceptance of responsibility is now being seen as a
landmark move.
