Saturday, December 4, 2004 (Srinagar):

Security forces today shot dead one of the militants who had killed five CRPF jawans in an attack on a joint CRPF camp on Friday.

"One ultra has been shot dead as the operation was resumed in the early hours today," a CRPF spokesman said.

He said an operation was on to look for any more militants holed up in the camp, as the security forces were not sure about the number of ultras involved in the suicide attack.

The operation, which was called off for the night after the day-long gun battle on Friday, has been among the longest operation against the fidayeen militants in Kashmir.

This was yet another fidayeen attack on the CRPF men in Kashmir, after the force took over as the counter insurgency force in the state's urban areas.
