Election Commission's special observer is in Patna to
look into allegations of violations of the model code of
conduct by RJD president Lalu Yadav.
An FIR has already been filed against Lalu for attempting to
bribe the electorate ahead of assembly elections in February.
The EC observer will also make an independent assessment to
see whether government machinery was being misused in the
poll process.
The RJD has already postponed its controversial rally
scheduled for December 23.
Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar in three phases in
February.
'EC to take appropriate action'
The Election Commission would take "appropriate action"
if allegations against Lalu Yadav, vis-a-vis violation of the
poll model code of conduct, are found to be true, Chief
Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy said in Chennai.
The Commission would not hesitate in taking "appropriate
action" if any political party violates election norms, he
told reporters at the airport last night in reply to a query
on reports of distribution of money to women by Lalu Yadav in
Bihar.
Krishnamurthy said the EC has sought an explanation from Lalu
on the issue and if the violation did take place "appropriate
action" would be taken. (with PTI inputs)
