Wednesday, January 19, 2005 (Islamabad):
Pakistan has denied violating the ceasefire along the Line of
Control in Poonch.
Reacting to reports of mortar firing by its soldiers,
Pakistan's defence spokesperson Major Gen Shaukat Sultan told
news agencies that no firing has taken place from its side.
Pakistani troops also heard some explosions in the Indian
territory, he added.
But the Indian Army confirmed last night that the Pakistani
Army had fired a dozen mortar rounds in Poonch.
Mortar fire
On Tuesday, there were reports that Indian positions in Durga
near Poonch town came under fire from the Pakistani side
around 6:30 pm (IST).
Between 6:30 and 8 pm (IST), seven to eight rounds of
infantry mortars were fired on Indian posts, according to
army spokesperson Major General Samanwar.
