The entire north India came in the grip of a major cold wave
after heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Jammu and
Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Temperatures in Srinagar, Gulmarg and other parts of Jammu
and Kashmir dipped to minus one degree. The Kashmir valley
remained cut off from the rest of the country by air as
several flights were cancelled.
The upper reaches of Shimla, Lahaul and Spiti received 10 to
15 cm of snow while Narkanda and Kufri were under a thick
blanket. The Indo-Tibetan National Highway has been blocked.
A high alert has been issued for tourists in Manali, with
thunderstorm and snow being forecast for today and Sunday.
The plains of Punjab and Haryana witnessed chilly conditions,
and Chandigarh recording its coldest day at 5 degree.
