Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has told NDTV that he
was willing to "go to the gallows" if found responsible for
the Gujarat riots.
The statement came after BJP President L K Advani made it
clear that there was no question of removing Modi from the
Chief Minister's post.
"If people don't get water I am worried. If a girl child does
not get education I feel bad. But I am not willing to repent
for something for which I am not responsible," he said.
"Let the Inquiry Commission submit its report. Let the courts
give their ruling. We should have faith in our judiciary," he
added.
"I have already stated in the Assembly that I am prepared to
face the gallows," he said when asked what he would do if the
commission established his involvement in the riots.
On Thursday, a group of dissident BJP leaders from Gujarat
had met Advani, seeking Modi's ouster, but their demand had
been rejected by the party.
