Tuesday, April 5, 2005 (New Delhi):

The BJP is taking stock of its 25-year-old history at its National Executive meeting in the capital today.

The party is likely to look back at how it transformed the national political scene from having just two seats to leading a coalition at the Centre.

What is also certain is that party President L K Advani's programme of going back to its RSS roots will get a stamp of approval.

Electoral success

The party is trying to find its future course with electoral successes and the possibility of an NDA government in Bihar, and is upbeat about the same.

It's this sense of elation which the BJP wishes to portray through a political resolution. Thus, when the top brass of the party sits together at the National Executive meet, the BJP's political future will be discussed at length.

"The agenda that will be discussed in the meeting has been finalised. There will be a presidential address and the President will then look at other key issues," said party leader Arun Jaitley.

Major concern

The growing population of the country is also a source of major concern for the BJP, and many leaders of the Sangh Pariwar want to take a strong stand on the issue.

The National Executive meet is likely to make a special mention of controlling the population explosion to cater to the hardline section.

Meanwhile, with Advani maintaining that the party was never going to compromise on its ideology, the real challenge will now be to balance the past with the future.
