April 13, 2005 (New Delhi):
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will flag off the Uttar Sampark
Kranti Express and dedicate the Jammu Tawi-Udhampur Rail line
to the nation today.
The 55-kilometer line, which is part of the ambitious Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla
rail link fulfills the UPA government's promise.
A multi-tier and multi-dimensional security set has been
implemented throughout the Jammu-Udhampur railway track,
which snakes through militancy-hit hills.
Security alert
A high-level team of Railway Police, state police and top
officials of Northern railways carried out a final security
drill during the past two days.
A dry run of three trains was also conducted on the track.
The Jammu-Udhampur rail line has been completed at a cost of
Rs 515 crore.
The track links Jammu and Udhampur connecting on way four
stations--Bajalta, Sangar, Marwal and Ramnagar.
It crosses the mighty Tawi river and its tributaries such as
Sardan, Ringhal, Gambhir and Dudhar.
Over 700 security personnel will be on guard at 50
watchtowers and 15 barracks-cum-pickets along the rail link.
Keeping in mind the security aspect for the rail track, the
security set-p will have a deployment of six jawans within a
range of one kilometer.
Two sniffer dogs will daily scan the bogies to ensure that
there is no explosive material. (With PTI inputs)
