Saturday, April 23, 2005 (Jakarta):

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is addressing the Asian African summit in Jakarta today.

He will also meet Nepal's King Gyandenra on the sidelines of the summit.

Relations between India and Nepal have been chilly since the monarch took absolute control of the country in a coup on the first of February.

In a meeting yesterday with the King, India's foreign minister Natwar Singh had re-asserted India's stand that all political prisoners in the country should be freed.

Nepal must also restore multi-party democracy or face a major crisis, he added.
