Chennai, May 3: The total IT
exports from Tamil Nadu for 2004-05 is likely to cross
Rs.11,000 crore and with the current growth rate in the
sector, the state alone is expected to create one million
jobs in the next five years, state IT Secretary Vivek
Harinarain said today.
"During 2003-04, our IT exports stood at about Rs.8,000 crore
and for the financial year 2004-05, it is expected to be
between Rs.11,000 crore and Rs.12,000 crore," he said at the
inauguration of third IT park, built by R R Industries.
"With the current growth rate, Tamil Nadu alone is expected
to generate direct employment for one million people in the
next 4-5 years," he added.
Harinarain said about nine million sq ft of IT space had been
created in Chennai and its suburbs and not even one building
or IT park was vacant.
He said that the state government was working to spearhead
the implementation of e-governance activities in the state.
As part of this plan, three infrastructure issues were being
pursued for implementation -- Tamil Nadu State Wide Area
Network (TNSWAN), State Data Centre and Common Services
Delivery Centres.
As part of TNSWAN, all the government offices will be made
available in the network. "Consultation and diagram works
have been completed and funding has also been arranged. This
project is expected to start in the next one month," he
added.
The state government will also be building a State Data
Centre and Common Services Delivery Centres to serve the
citizens from one place for all their requirements.
