Chennai, June. 20 : More than
2,000 petroleum retail outlets all over Tamil Nadu remained
closed since midnight to protest against the
non-implementation of the accord signed between them and the
Union Government on the increase of dealers' commission from
1.59 per cent to five per cent.
President of the Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers Association M
Kannan, told UNI that to mark their protest all the member
petrol bunks would remain closed till midnight today.
He said if the Government failed to implement the accord,
which was signed nearly four years back, they had no other
alternative but to go for an indefinite strike from July 18
next, as per the decision taken by the All India Association.
Secretary, Chennai Regional Petroleum Dealers' Association, P
Chander, said that there were more than 140 petroleum retail
outlets taking part in today's strike in the city and added
that the strike was "total".
However, atleast 199 petroleum retail outlets in Tamil Nadu
were opened as usual. Long queues were seen in some places,
waiting to fill up fuel for their vehicles.
