The girls have again outclassed boys in the
Class XII examination conducted by the Central Board of
Secondary Education (CBSE) with a pass percentage of 83.17
percent compared to 73.78 percent.
The overall pass percentage of Chennai region is 90 percent,
which is the highest as compared to other regions, CBSE
Chairman Ashok Ganguly said here on Monday. Chennai is
followed by Ajmer, Chandigarh, Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati.
Many Bangalore schools also recorded impressive results and
several Kendriya Vidyalayas registered high percentage of
passes. KV Hebbal and KV Malleswaram had 100 per cent passes
while KV DRDO had 95 per cent passes.
Among the private schools, Oxford Senior Secondary School
achieved 100 per cent for the tenth consecutive year.
The results for the Class X examination for Ajmer, Chennai
and Chandigarh zones would be declared at 6 pm on May 24 and
those for Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati would be announced on
May 26 evening. Announcing the results for the Class XII
examination, for which 4,20,240 candidates registered, Mr
Ganguly said there had been a 1.8 per cent increase in the
overall pass percentage as compared to last year’s 77.80 per
cent compared to 76 per cent.
Pass percentage of regular students was 80.99 as compared to
37.41 of private candidates. Among groups of schools, the
best performance (93.14 per cent) was by the nine
institutions of the Central Tibetan Schools. This was
followed by the Kendriya Vidyalayas (92.47 per cent), Jawahar
Navodaya Vidyalayas (87.08 per cent) and private schools
(80.46 per cent).
The results of the examinations, which were held between
March 1 and April 1, were also posted on CBSE’s websites
www.results.nic.in; www.cbseresults.nic.in and
www.cbse.nic.in.
Chennai region topped the CBSE Class XII examination with a
pass percentage of 89.04 for the boys and 91.24 for the
girls. But compared to last year, the percentage for both the
boys and girls had dipped as figures for 2004 were 89.54 per
cent for the boys and 91.72 per cent for their female peers.
While the pass percentage for the regular candidates was
91.13 compared to 91.80 in 2004, the percentage for the
private candidates showed improvement with 41.95 in 2005
compared to 41.18 in 2004.
While the KVS in Chennai region had a pass percentage of
93.94, the figure was 95.24 per cent for Jawahar Navodaya
Vidyalayas, 73.19 percent for Government schools and 91.03
per cent for private schools. The number of students placed
in compartment was 2126.
