Infosys
has begun the process of constructing, a 500 bed, 4 star
hotel accommodation for their employees, clients and
partners. This move comes as a result of the accommodation
shortage that is prevailing in Bangalore city.
The severe shortage of rooms and high tariff structures in
Bangalore hotels, has forced Infosys to enter into the
hospitality arena. But Infosys states that this move is
primarily for their internal requirement, reports CNBC-TV18.
Bangalore has around 3000 odd rooms, across various five-star
hotels. The tariffs in these hotels are the highest, as
compared to the rest of India, some even amount to Rs 14,000
per night and yet there is a demand for more.
Infosys, that is located in Bangalore faces an additional
problem, of being away from the airport by about a two hour
drive. Hence, Infosys seems to have come up with a solution,
that is a captive 500 bed, 4 star hotel accommodation for
their employees, clients and partners.
"We actually had customers living in Chennai and making day
trips to Bangalore, because there were no hotel rooms. They
stay in a hotel in Chennai, and fly to Bangalore to attend
meetings and fly back to Chennai again because of the
unavailability of hotel rooms," said Nandan M Nilekani,
President and CEO, Infosys Technologies.
