CHENNAI: A Chennai student has won the Harry Potter contest
organised by Odyssey bookstore, winning a free trip to London
to visit the various Potter haunts.
Beating hundreds of contestants, all of whom had booked in
advance J K Rowling’s latest book Harry Potter and the
Half-Blood Prince, medical student Srilakshmi Sundararajan
gets to go to Oxford to participate in various fun activities
organised for Harry Potter fans.
Odyssey, which has 12 outlets in Chennai, Hyderabad,
Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Salem and Varanasi, made the contest
skill-based so that avid Harry Potter fans could enter.
Anyone who pre-booked a copy (the release is slated for July
16) were eligible to participate. A set of questions had to
be answered by the contestants and they had to create a
slogan too.
Of the 17 short-listed entries, Srilakshmi’s slogan — ‘I love
Harry Potter because it is one addiction that my parents
allow’ — bagged her the prize.
She is a student of Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Porur
and a big fan of Rowling and her books.
‘‘When I knew that I won the trip, I couldn’t sleep the whole
night,’’ says an excited Srilakshmi. Her sister will also be
accompanying her on the sponsored tour.
They get to participate in the Harry Potter Fan Trip,
organised by a USA-based travel and tour company. This will
involve a ride on Locomotive 5972, the train used as Hogwarts
Express in the movies.
A virtual reality flying game (Potter fans know it as
Quidditch) and a talk on witches and wizards are also part of
the agenda. Srilakshmi can hardly wait to pack her bags. And
although both the sisters would have read the Half-Blood
Prince by then, the book that won them the trip will
definitely go with them.
