College:
Accounting Degree / Computer
Applications
The Associate of Applied Science degree in
Accounting/Computer Applications provides students with a
background in accounting and specialized training in
computer applications. A foundation of the fundamentals of
accounting is essential to success in any economic
endeavor.
This program covers computerized accounting, basic
accounting principles, and advanced accounting
applications. Students will be prepared to create,
analyze, and interpret financial data and statements in
order to make sound business and accounting decisions.
Additionally, students will learn business law, business
ethics, and basic economics. To keep with current trends,
computer applications and word processing courses are also
taught. Accounting prepares students for practical work in
bookkeeping, accounting, finance, and credit or production
departments of businesses. It also serves as good, basic
training for individuals who plan to manage their own
business or assume major responsibilities in accounting
departments.
Thornton Campus
Parks College was founded by W.T. Parks in 1895 under the
name Modern Business School. In July 1923, the school was
renamed Parks School of Business Administration. This was
the only private business school in Denver to be
accredited according to college and university standards.
Even during the Great Depression of the 1930's, Parks
remained a thriving institution, continuing to train
students for business education. In response to a growing
student body, the school moved in 1968 and again in the
late 1970's. In 1987, the College was renamed Parks Junior
College, and to better serve students throughout the area,
it relocated to its present site in northern metropolitan
Denver. In 1989, the College opened a branch campus in
Aurora. In 1995, the name changed to Parks College, and in
October 1996, was acquired by Rhodes Colleges, Inc. (RCi).
Aurora Campus
In 1989, a branch of the North campus was opened in
Aurora. Southeast of Denver, the Aurora location helps
serve students throughout the metropolitan area. Parks
College is owned and operated by RCi, a division of
Corinthian Colleges, Inc. (CCi). In late 2001, the Aurora
campus moved to its current location. CCi is one of the
largest postsecondary school organizations in the United
States, operating over 55 colleges and institutions
nationwide.
