Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan is ranked as one of the best in the country with about 7,000 students.

Three-and-a-half decades since the school was founded, PSBB school has been recognised as a centre of academic excellence. It has two branches.The school at Nungambakkam is known as the Main School, with an annexe at Thirumalai Road, which has more than 2,500 students.

The branch school at K K Nagar is housed in a sprawling 5-acre campus and boasts of 4,500 students on its rolls.

PSBB is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Nearly 40% of the students gain entry into the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technologies) and another 20% into other premier institutes besides many who are pursuing higher education or occupying influential positions abroad.

The focus is more on the learning process than on information or inert content. Continuous assessment, through year long cycle tests, is yet another unique feature of the Junior Curriculum.

History


Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School (PSBB) was founded in 1958 by a group of enterprising house wives.

The school was started in a thatched shed, with 13 students and a staff of three. The school was christened Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan in honor of the deceased wife of a lawyer who helped in the cause.

In 1959, within a year of its beginning, it moved to its present location in Lake Area, Nungambakkam. The residents of Nungambakkam realised the potential of the school and the student enrolment shot up. The first batch of students to take the Class X Board exams were in 1967-68.

Labs
There are well equipped labs for Mathematics, Science and Language.

Computer Labs
The new generation computer labs provide E-mail and Internet facilities to over 2500 senior students. Internet access is easily available. The PSBB Times is also available on the net and is an in-house publication by the PSBB students.

Teacher Training Centre
It provides year round in-service teacher development programmes ranging from TQM to TA, Time management to teacher effectiveness


Activities and Clubs

Duke of Edinburgh Award
PSBB has initiated this scheme to encourage and stimulate the enthusiasm and energy of the youth in four areas of skill, physical recreation, service and adventure. PSBB is proud that a number of students have qualified for and received gold and silver awards under the scheme.

Quest
Programme adapted from the American concept of student counselling provides an opportunity to inculcate morals in the student community.

Futurology
Helps the students develop futuristic and problem solving thinking skills.

Sports
Tennis and Cricket Coaching are an integral part of school life. Swimming is considered as a survival skill and comes under the Junior's Curriculum.

Value Education
Emphasis is laid on Indian heritage, ethos and culture, to inculcate in each student, pride and patriotism for the country.

Bharat Kalachar
The cultural wing of the school has year round performances by artists to help the students appreciate, understand and excel in dance and music.

Yoga, meditation, lateral thinking, and special programs for enrichment classes are also held.

At primary level children are exposed to English language by story telling, creative drama and language lab activities.
