It
is easy to miss the bigger picture in K.C.Murukeson’s
paintings. His artistic acumen demands a closer look of his
geometric figures arranged methodically on canvas. His
greatest works are the cityscapes where one can see
disorder, chaos and the life.
Murukeson who developed interest in painting from his
childhood days over the years has mastered both in oil and
acrylic paintings. All the works resemble each other in
style; execution and the way colours occupy the triangles
and squares. But zoom in and allow your eyes to adjust to
the canvass to see those birds in flight, fiery petals of
flowers and burning earth with spurts of lava. Like a
rubic’s cube, the permutation and combination reveal a lot
about life.
When Murukesan decided to shift from landscapes to city
spaces he had Pablo Picasso in mind or rather, Picasso’s
cubistic style of painting. Murukesan painted cubes,
triangles and squares as per strict measurements for the
first four weeks. Slowly, he moved away from the rigid
lines to create images in a free style. At the end of 20
paintings, this full-time painter for the past 30 years,
has created more art and moved beyond the mountains and
valleys of his village in Madurai.
