Animals
have expressions too. How closely these equate to our
interpretation of them is a matter for debate, but there
is no doubt that they can look reflective, intelligent and
happy as well as the more usual amusing or alarming. As in
many other branches of photography, the secret is often
patience.
Most people start in natural history photography as an
extension of an existing interest. The big problem is that
almost all wildlife is wary, and some of it is dangerous
too. It is all too easy to become so obsessed with getting
a picture that you fail to notice the Tiger's mate that is
stalking you: it may sound melodramatic, but it does
happen, specially with scorpions and snakes.
The outstanding riches of Indian Wildlife, which compare
favorably with African fauna, are perhaps not sufficiently
realized.
